APPRENTICESHIP

The "Apprenticeship of Christ" is a Christian concept of discipleship.  Where believers follow Jesus as a master to learn and live like Him, not just by believing in Him, but by practicing His ways and embodying His character.

It involves actively training in spiritual disciplines, applying Jesus's wisdom to daily life, and growing in Christlikeness through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This transformation is a cooperative effort between the individual and the Holy Spirit, aiming for a deep, life-long pursuit of becoming more like Christ.

Key Aspects of Being an Apprentice to Jesus:

  • Learning by Doing: Instead of just intellectual study, it's about learning to do what Jesus did through hands-on practice in all areas of life.
  • Living the Kingdom: The aim is to access and live from the Kingdom of God, which is seen as a present reality, not a distant future.
  • Spiritual Disciplines: Apprentices engage in practices like prayer, study, fellowship, service, and solitude to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and strengthen their character.
  • Character Formation: The process transforms a person's character, leading to automatic, Christlike responses in everyday situations.
  • Seeking Guidance: Disciples should consider how Jesus would act and seek His guidance through prayer, just as an apprentice would consult their master.

The Goal:
The ultimate goal is NOT to earn favor or salvation, but to cooperate with God's grace for spiritual growth, becoming more like Christ and participating in God's mission in the world. To be a Soldier for Christ.
