I was living in Las Vegas, NV and got the call from mom to let me know that she had gotten cancer and there wasn't much time. Hospice was now coming to her home in Mesquite, NV and morphine was being administered to ease the pain. The family all started gathering more to spend time with mom and to ease the responsibilities that dad had.
Mom was a woman of God and had told us that God once called for her when we were young. She said she was sleeping and she saw herself leaving her body and she cried out to God, to say she was not ready. I never asked, but I think maybe it was because at the time dad was away on a ship and she felt that she needed to stay to raise us. Then after asking God if she could remain, mom said she then returned to her body.
She was a great mother and a General to all of us 6 of whom she was able to raise. While dad provided his support doing his work in the Navy, even though it seemed for the 18 of his 20 years that he was in the service, he was mostly on a ship in or around the U.S. or in another country.
Mom was able to keep things together though and I don't remember her ever complaining or swearing one time. Come to think of it, I cannot remember her ever losing her temper. That's how she was and I always admired her for this and much more. I also enjoyed reciprocating my love by writing inspirations or poetry to give her on her Birthday, during the Holidays and while giving her flowers on Mothers Day.
I was the only one she would allow to sample what she was cooking for everyone and she held out that last jar of home made ketchup that everyone wanted, just for me. She also caught on fast when she got her first pc and she was able to complete the work for her Poetry Book she wanted to have published.
I had been out to visit and returned home, then a few weeks later mom appeared in my dream to tell me that she needed me to come see her. When I woke I looked right away to find someone to drive me, since I had stopped driving and found a neighbor who was willing to take me the 80 miles in my truck.
I arrived and went to mom and sat down and I could tell that there was a chance mom could not hear or understand me. I began talking to her anyways and started talking about the time that I was popping caps on the porch and mom had asked me several times to stop. She must have told dad or maybe he had had enough of it and dad came flying out of the front door and I left in a run.
As I looked back I was amazed that my dad was keeping up with me and so I headed over a fence across the street of a neighbors then back over the fence on the other side and as I looked back again dad had climbed that second fence and was still coming. I was amazed he made it over that second fence and I started laughing and by the time the both of us got back to the porch, we were both exhausted and laughing.
Looking over to mom, she was rocking a bit and seemed to be smiling and enjoying what I was reminiscing with her. I then said my goodbyes, thinking that I would see her again and we headed out of town.
Then I got a call from my oldest sister to tell me that mom had just passed. So we turned around and headed back to her and I was able to see her once more. After she was carried away, I went outside in the back to gather my thoughts. It started snowing heavily and I thought this was not normal for this part of the desert. Looking over to a telephone pole close by, I thought I had seen something move. So, without hesitation I hurried and grabbed my phone to snap a picture. Then relaxed thinking he may be mom's escort to Heaven.
A few weeks later I pulled up the photo on my pc and while looking at it, I decided to write an inspiration that came to me. I then had it printed and now have it framed and in my living room.
